the meeting will be devoted to participation in the Spring Sale. All members will meet at the location used to store merchandise for sales on both the East and West Ends of Oak Ridge. This common location for all Lions is in a store location at the told Bus Terminal center. It is across the way from the storage place used last year. Just look around. We will meet at 5:00 p.m. and continue through the evening.
Lion Ken Preston has gotten an additional supply of compact florescent light bulbs plus the brooms. We need the cooperation of all members to complete this sale in a reasonable time period.
there will be no meeting due to the conflict with Memorial Day. All members will have the opportunity to make up for this meeting by participating in the Spring Sale of Brooms, Mops, and Light Bulbs. (See previous item regarding the sale; it will continue each sale night until the merchandise is depleted.)
we will have as our guests those ORHS students who will receive scholarships from our Lions Club for continuing study during the following school year. These students and their immediate family will be our guests, and we will have the opportunity to hear about their plans and goals as they continue their studies. This meeting will be in the Fellowship Hall of the Trinity United Methodist Church. All Members are encouraged to attend to support these students.
we will have the formal installation of our Club Officers for the 2008-2009 year. This will be a Ladies night and you are encouraged to invite guests, particular guests who may be potential members.
To select the scholars who will be given these scholarships, the Selection Committee will meet for its initial review of applications on Thursday, May 8, in the Board Room of RFB&D. Meetings of this Committee will continue as needed to complete the selection process.
will be held at the Fountain City Lions Club Park on North Broadway in Knoxville from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on June 21, and all District 12-N Lions are needed to participate. This event replaces the ‘Walk for the Blind’ and the funds collected add to the White Cane Day funds. The Walk For Sight is at 11:00 a.m. and other activities include a car show, Arts & Craft Show, Cake Walks plus entertainment and a Health Fair. There will be a Kickoff Meeting on Saturday, May 3rd at 9:00 a.m. at the Fountain City Building at the park. Lions are needed.
Due to
our continuing decline in membership,
I am currently in discussion with the
Oak Ridge Century Lions Club about
joining the two Clubs together. The
Century Club is pacing our relentless
decline in membership and some sort
of action is necessary if both clubs are
to continue serving our community. I
will keep the Club apprised of
progress.
We are past the mid-point in the Spring sale and participation by any members that are able to assist will be helpful. Other than our investments (which are dedicated to scholarships), the Sale is our only source of income and more participation means more income.
We are in the midst of our scholarship award process for this year and we will be awarding four $500.00 scholarships to deserving Oak Ridge High School graduates. It is always a challenge to select so few recipients from so many worthy applicants. My thanks to the Scholarship Committee for their dedication to this worthwhile activity. When the rain stops lets get out and sell.
King Leo Roger Land

We need members to participate in our Club’s booth at the Secret City Festival on June 20 and 21 at Bissel Park in Oak Ridge. We have brooms, mops, and light bulbs to sell plus some large Coloring Books. We need to tell people what the Lions do and ask interested persons to join us.
Lion Jerry Young is acting as Secretary in the absence of Lion Bruce Link. He reported our membership is at 22 members following the death of PDG Dick Lines. There are still three Life Members and two Member-at- Large (MAL); this gives us 17 members on Active Status.
The meeting was called to order by King Leo Roger at 6:00 p.m. The report of the Secretary was presented and approved. The Treasurer’s report was presented later and approved.
For payment, bills were presented from the Eye Center of Oak Ridge for $75.00 for an eye examination and glasses for a needy person, and for $817 in payment for the compact florescent light bulbs. The bills were approved for payment.
A letter was received from DG-E Jim McFarland as cochair for “A Day with the Lions 2008" giving the details of that event (see page 1 for details). Note that the date conflicts with the date for the Secret City Festival, so we will need all the Lions for representation at both events. It was voted to cancel the regular meeting on May 12 to permit members to join the Spring Sale. The East End members will meet at a store near the previous location. The West End members will sell from the same store. Plans for the sale again illustrated the need for more, new, young members.
Also, the Scholarship Selection Committee will meet on May 8 at 6:00 p.m. in the RFB&D Board Room. Four scholarships will be awarded this year. Lion Larry Losh will coordinate the selection process.
Lion John Sanders reported on the plans for future programs. These plans were subsequently changed as indicated to those indicated in this bulletin.
Possible meeting places after Trinity unites with First United Methodist Church. The possibility of merging with the Oak Ridge Century Lions Club was discussed; King Leo Roger will proceed with this discussion.
The Lions present at the Board Meeting were: Roger Land, George Smith, Jerry Young, Joe Henderson, John Sanders, Ken Preston, Keith Lowery, Bill Luzader, Don Scott, Bob Reynolds, and Ron Bugos.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:45 p.m. EST.

MEMORIAL DAY MAY 26was planned to remember all those who gave their life in founding and continuing this great country of ours. At 3:00 p.m. on that day (local time), each person is asked to pause a few minutes to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we could continue to live free. We should feel proud and also very fortunate to live in the U.S. where we can live and think as we see appropriate. As Lions, we also join with like-minded persons all over the world to help those who are in need and who are not free.

As indicated previously, King Leo Roger is now investigating the possibility of joining our Club with the Oak Ridge Century Lions Club. This action is considered due to the loss of members in our Club leading to difficulties in conducting our Spring and Fall Sales plus the loss of our convenient meeting place. As you may remember, the Century Lions Club was organized mostly due to the effort of Past International Director Herb Diggs, who was a member of our Club. He exerted that effort due to the fact, even at that date, that membership in Lions Clubs was decreasing in our District and in the United States. If one person, with dedicated effort, can sign up the 87 charter members of that Club, then one dedicated person can also find a significant number of members to join our Lions Club so that it can continue to exist. ARE YOU THAT LION?
which will continue until all of the merchandise is sold or all of the homes in Oak Ridge have been visited. If you have any questions about times, dates, or weather conditions, please call Lion Ken Preston at 483-8396. Please remember that the help of all members is needed. Thanks!
