Oak Ridge Lions Scholars
Each year the Oak Ridge Lions Club awards scholarships
to deserving seniors in the Oak Ridge High School graduating class.
60th Anniversary is BIG Success
There were 56 persons at the Anniversary Celebration
and both the decorations and exhibits were great. Lion
Bob Reynolds and Charlene, King Leo Jerry Young
and Roylyn, plus Lion Larry Losh all made significant
contributions. The large display of Club banners was
at the front, and a collections of scrapbooks and
pictures of past Presidents were displayed. Also, Lion
Joe Henderson put together a display of recent and
archived pictures that were projected during the
meeting. Lion Larry Losh also made arrangements for
the excellent entertainment. Lion Don Scott took
photographs of the meeting. Lion John Sanders
prepared a printed program for the evening with
matching tickets, and he arranged for PID Allen
Broughton to be the speaker. The meal was prepared
by Karen’s Katering.
Mayor David Bradshaw
presented a Proclamation from
the Oak Ridge Council citing
the many contributions of the
Club over its years of
existence. He challenged the
Club to renew its strength and
vitality so that its contributions
would be continued in future
years.
PID Broughton told about
his excitement as a young boy
with a new swing and how he
tried to go higher and higher. Then later, he was
content to just sit there and let “the cat die” as the
expression goes. He called on the members to exert
the enthusiasm and energy of the founders of the Club
and build it back into an energetic and significant force
in the community. Just don’t sit there and “let the cat
die.” View an album of Photos from the celebration. |

programs for both eye glasses and printer cartridges.
Thanks go to members at the booth including Lions
Link, Young, Land, and Bugos.

Our Club has provided a plaque on the Memory
Walk that will be dedicated during that Festival.
It is shown framed by Lions Link, Reynolds, Young

White Cane Days
 |
|
Lion Ken Preston |
The month of October 2003 was designated by our District
for our annual White Cane Day Solicitation. This year,
Lion Don Scott has coordinated our efforts, and to
date, we have collected a little more than $2,200.
We still have not asked local businesses to contribute,
and that should provide an additional $1,000. Lion
Ken Preston (shown at right) stayed with the solicitation
to the end. The picture shows Lion Ken at Krogers
store on October 30.
Our thanks to the Lions who collected, and our thanks
to those in the community who contributed. Remember
that the money collected (plus the money from the
three Walks in East Tennessee) goes to support seven
District Projects. |
